Today's homes are better insulated and more energy efficient than ever before. They're highly airtight too. That's great news for reducing emissions and lowering energy costs. But in the absence of effective ventilation, better insulation and a corresponding increase in energy efficiency can compromise air quality.

To overcome this challenge, Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) was invented. Already tried, tested and trusted in millions of homes worldwide, MVHR provides effective ventilation without compromising energy efficiency.

How Does MVHR Work?

MVHR's principle of operation is simple and straightforward. Stale, damp humid area is drawn from wet rooms within the home and expelled to atmosphere. At the same time, freshly filtered, clean air is drawn into dry rooms. Both air streams pass through a heat exchanger, with residual heat from outgoing air, transferred across to the incoming air. So homeowners and householders benefit from a continual supply of clean, freshly filtered air, without compromising hard won, energy efficiency gains.

What are the benefits of MVHR?

MVHR offers many benefits. Below we've listed just a few:
  • Continual supply of clean, freshly filtered air;
  • Maintains whole house energy efficiency;
  • Suitable for new build, retrofit and refurbishment applications;
  • Reduces prevalence of mould, damp, mildew, VOCs and airborne environmental toxins within the home;
  • More efficient than traditional ventilation systems;
  • Reduced heating requirement;
  • Complies with, or exceeds, ventilation requirements contained within Irish and UK Building Regulations;
  • Suitable for installation in a wide range of dwellings, including flats, apartments, single and multi-storey houses.
Is MVHR suitable for any home?

Yes, MVHR systems can be installed at almost any home. However, MVHR will provide maximum advantage when installed in dwellings where the air permeability of the thermal envelope is <3 cubic metres per hour @ 50 Pa.
